Motor repair & rewind: keep the original shield and seal execution

  1. ON SITE PROBLEM

    The repair sheet shows a short stock code. Order by that code and you can end up with open bearings where shields were fitted, or the wrong clearance for the motor.

  2. WHAT WE NEED

    • Motor make and frame
    • Full SKF designation with suffix
    • DE and NDE positions listed apart
    • A clear photo of the bearing markings if the code is incomplete

  3. HOW WE HELP

Which SKF bearing types are common in motors, pumps and fans?

Motors mostly use deep groove ball and cylindrical roller bearings. Pumps add angular contact bearings for combined loads. Larger fan assemblies use spherical roller bearings and housed units. Use this matrix as a first check, then send your full designation so we can confirm the exact position.

Motors driven by a VFD can carry shaft currents through the bearings, which leads to early bearing failure. Insulated SKF bearings with suitable clearance are one way to deal with it. We can only flag the risk if we know how the motor is driven.

What information identifies the correct SKF motor bearing?+

The full SKF designation including seal or shield and clearance suffix, plus the motor model and bearing position. If the code on your list is abbreviated, send a clear photo of the bearing markings and tell us what still needs confirming.

How should I list the two bearing positions of a motor?+

List the drive-end (DE) and non-drive-end (NDE) bearings on separate lines, each with its own designation and quantity. This avoids wrong quantities and bearings fitted in the wrong position.

Will you substitute a different designation?+

Only with your approval. Any alternative is marked separately on the quote, and no technical change goes ahead unless the buyer approves it.
